How to Evaluate an AI Companion App

An app's feature list is only the start of a comparison. A useful evaluation asks whether those features work for your intended routine and whether the price and data practices fit your requirements.

1. Separate a feature claim from a measured result

“Memory” can refer to several things: information in the current conversation, details saved in a profile or recall across later sessions. Write down what you need before trying the app. Use a harmless fictional preference, return later and check whether the answer is accurate. A convincing response is not necessarily an accurate recollection.

2. Compare the full billing amount

Record the amount charged today, the billing period, the renewal terms and any separate usage purchases. An advertised monthly equivalent can require an annual commitment. Compare the plan that includes your required features, rather than the cheapest headline on each site.

3. Check how much a free trial can establish

A short allowance can help you judge navigation and writing style. It cannot establish performance over a month. Record when you encounter a limit and avoid extrapolating long-term quality from a few messages. 4. Review the account lifecycle

Find the privacy notice, data-deletion instructions and cancellation procedure before paying. Record what each action does. Check whether cancellation stops renewal, whether deletion has separate conditions and whether you receive confirmation. Do not infer these details from a promotional privacy slogan.

5. Keep a short decision record

• Service, plan and date checked.
• Required feature and what you observed.
• Amount payable, renewal and usage limits.
• Unknowns that still affect the decision.

Repeat the same comparison when a plan changes. A dated record with a clear limitation is more useful than an undated “best app” claim.
